FAQ

Answers to our most frequent questions.

  • What is the Accomplice Academy?

The Accomplice Academy is an all-in-one online platform for learning about diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), designed to help you become an active equity accomplice. Our mission is to foster inclusive and equitable environments through comprehensive training and engagement. The Academy boasts a wealth of video and digital resources that initiate the critical DEI conversations often overlooked. It is a supportive space for individuals committed to deepening their DEI understanding and applying this knowledge in their communities and workplaces.

  • What inspired the creation of the Accomplice Academy?

The inspiration for the Academy stems from Dr. Monica Cox's influential Twitter presence, especially a tweet in July 2021 that resonated with many. The overwhelming response highlighted a universal desire for authentic DEI dialogue, prompting Dr. Monica to establish the Accomplice Academy. Here's the tweet: "Instead of showing me your diversity statement, show me your hiring data, your discrimination claim stats, your salary tables, your retention numbers, your diversity policies, and your leaders’ public actions against racism. End performative allyship."

  • How do I know if the Accomplice Academy is right for me?

The Accomplice Academy is for people who want to

✅ Learn how to use influence and resources to command systemic change.
✅ Develop an actionable equity accomplice blueprint.
✅ Reflect on ways they will take risks in inequitable systems.
✅ Center others more than themselves on their journey to accompliceship.

  • Who is the Accomplice Academy NOT right for?

My Accomplice Academy is NOT for people who...

⦾ Resist engaging in deep and authentic conversations about equity.
⦾ Pursue superficial approval rather than meaningful progress in DEI initiatives.
⦾ Overlook retention issues and fail to address underlying causes of diversity efforts' failures.
⦾ Tolerate workplace environments that are harmful to diverse groups.
⦾ Shirk the responsibility of actively implementing and upholding DEI principles.

  • How do I apply Accomplice Academy learning to my daily life?

The Accomplice Academy prioritizes practical skills that you can immediately apply. Come to the sessions with your questions and concerns to craft a personalized accomplice plan. We will analyze real-life cases, ensuring you have support when applying Accomplice Academy principles in everyday situations. Our community will coach and hold you accountable for your DEI actions, ensuring they resonate with your identity and aspirations. We are here to support you.

  • Is the Accomplice Academy only for white people, particularly straight white men?

The short answer is no; becoming a DEI accomplice is a calling for everyone. Championing justice and leveraging one's power, privilege, and positionality to effect change is not exclusive to any single individual. However, due to societal norms and systemic oppression, leaders and those in positions of power stand to gain the most from the Accomplice Academy, as they can directly enact policy changes and lead organizational transformation. Being an accomplice involves risks, making those ready to advocate for others particularly suited for our community. You need not already be an accomplice to join; rather, a commitment to growth is essential. Embracing teachability, humility, and vulnerability will guide you toward accomplishing your goals as an accomplice, as you connect with fellow members eager for growth.
